This year has been big for celebrity couple breakups, especially age-gap couples. First, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones revealed that they were taking a break from their 13-year marriage, then Clint Eastwood and Dina Ruiz ended their 17-year marriage, and then Courtney Stodden dumped her husband, Doug Hutchison, after two years of marriage.

Before 2013 comes to a close, we may have to add another celebrity couple to that list: Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott. Although there’s only a seven-year age difference between them, the reason for their marriage trouble has a lot to do with a much bigger age difference—McDermott has been accused of cheating on his wife with a younger woman, 28-year-old Emily Goodhand.

The affair is said to have started in early December in Toronto, where the reality TV star was promoting his new series, Chopped Canada. He reportedly met Goodhand at a group dinner and was flirting with her as the group headed to a high-end hotel nearby to continue the party. “His personality is very charming,” Goodhand told Us Weekly. “I was drinking, so what he said is blurry. But he was talking about his kids and work.”

The young woman claimed that McDermott slipped her a piece of paper with his hotel room number on it, along with a copy of his room key. She then went into his room where they had sex; he allegedly told her that he was in a “sexless marriage” and asked her to stay and cuddle after their romp in the sack. The next day, McDermott reportedly invited Goodhand back to his hotel room, where he showed her part of a sex tape that he had made with Spelling back in 2009.

Although neither Spelling nor McDermott’s reps have confirmed or denied the affair, McDermott was noticeably absent from the family pictures that Spelling posted on Twitter over Christmas. And even though the celebrity couple has appeared to be pretty happy over the course of their relationship, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched for McDermott to cheat—his relationship with Spelling started as an affair.

On top of that, Spelling has revealed that she’s always worried about her husband straying. “I often get worried that Dean is going to cheat on me. If the phone rings and it’s a girl’s voice, I have to ask if he’s having an affair,” she wrote in her 2010 book, Uncharted TerriTORI. “[He] tells me over and over again that he would never do that.”

The celebrity couple has been married since May 2006 and they have four kids together—the oldest is six years old and the youngest is 16 months.

What do you think: Would you trust your partner to be faithful if your own relationship started as an affair?
