Former U.S. National Security Advisor during the Obama administration, Susan Rice is married to Ian O. Cameron, who is well-versed with the political circuit thanks to his job at ABC News. In fact, politics is a big part of the Rice-Cameron household. To learn more about this politically active family, check out our Ian O. Ian O. Cameron and Susan Rice Met at Stanford

Ian Officer Cameron was born in 1961 to Marjorie and Newton D. Cameron and hails from Victoria, British Columbia in Canada. His father, a U.S. Army vet who served during World War II, owned a lumber company in Victoria before retiring.

Ian was raised alongside his sister, Laura, and brothers, Donnell and Brian. His parents passed away in 2008.

Cameron would later come to the U.S. where he graduated from Stanford University. Washington native Susan Elizabeth Rice also graduated from Stanford and that is where they met.

Rice met senior year student Cameron during freshman orientation. “She struck me right away as someone unique. She was more aware and very confident,” recalled Cameron.

When Rice was awarded the coveted Rhodes Scholarship, she pursued and acquired her doctorate in international relations at Oxford University in the U.K. Cameron also acquired a master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

After several years together, they tied the knot on September 12, 1992, at the St. Albans School chapel in D.C.

Cameron Was a Producer at ABC News

Ian Cameron acquired his bachelor’s in communication from Stanford in 1983 and a master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics in 1987. From then, he has been working as a network producer.

When he married Rice, he had been a TV producer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto. Rice was employed as a management consultant at a Canadian firm back then.

They would return to the U.S. and settle here with their families. He joined ABC News in 1998 as a producer at World News.

Cameron would eventually be named an executive producer at ABC News in the Washington, D.C. metro area in 2008. In 2018, he replaced Kathy O’Hearn as executive producer of This Week With George Stephanopoulos.

Cameron and Rice Have Two Children

Ian Cameron and Susan Rice are parents to Jake Rice-Cameron and Maris Rice-Cameron. Maris, the younger of the two, is a varsity soccer player and basketball at Maret High School, Washington and is set to graduate in 2021.

But it is Jake who gets the attention in the media, mostly for his contrasting political views to his former Obama official mom. Jake, a student at Stanford, leans towards the conservative side and is president of the Stanford College Republicans or SCR.

However, their differing political leanings aren’t causing tension. As Jake puts it, his parents “believe extensively in debate and engaging the other side and exposing people to different viewpoints.”

Rice has also gone on record to say that she and her son have disagreed on various policies. Nonetheless, they have established a dynamic as a family with political differences.
