Howard Stern is one of America’s most well-known radio personalities. Having always dreamt of a career in radio, Stern started out by working at the campus station while studying at Boston University. His job was to perform skits, do newscasts, and general production duties. After graduating, Stern went on to land several radio gigs with a few different stations—the experience gave him the opportunity to develop and perfect the on-air personality he’s famous for today.
In 1985, Stern started what would become a 20-year stint on New York City’s WXRK (now known as WNOW-FM.) He was initially signed on to fill an afternoon slot with a mix of music and talk, but the following year, Stern was moved to the morning slot—a wise move because The Howard Stern Show ended up becoming the highest-rated of its time. Six months later, his show became nationally syndicated, making Stern an even bigger celebrity.
By 1992, Stern had become the first radio personality to hold the title of number one morning radio show in both Los Angeles and New York, and he won Billboard magazine’s “Nationally Syndicated Air Personality of the Year” award consecutively from 1994 to 2002. He became known for his outspoken and often controversial on-air style and has even been fined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on several occasions for indecent material. In 2004, Stern revealed that he had accepted a $500.0 million deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, making him the highest-paid radio personality. The Howard Stern Show is still a hit with its paid subscribers.
Naturally, as Stern’s celebrity status grew, so did his popularity with women. In 2000, Stern started dating model and TV personality Beth Ostrosky, and by 2007, the celebrity couple was engaged. They tied the knot in October 2008 and despite their 18-year age gap, their marriage has been strong ever since.
According to Ostrosky, Stern, in reality, is nothing like his blunt on-air personality. In fact, he’s quite affectionate. “We really do have fun together, day in and day out, and we do well when we are together 24/7,” said Ostrosky, adding, “We appreciate each other, and he really listens to everything I say. I think he is quite a catch—the perfect husband.” And even after 13 years together, Ostrosky is still madly in love with her older man. “I still get that fuzzy feeling in my stomach every time I see him,” she told Us Weekly. “We are just so blissfully happy. I wish this feeling for everyone. He’s the most thoughtful person I know.”
