Hasan Piker is the brash-talking political commentator on YouTube’s biggest news show, The Young Turks. Balancing his good looks and charm are his wit and grit to debate serious topics, earning him his status as the original “Woke Bae” of the digital world. Piker is polarizing, but has the impressive ability to get you thinking about the other side of an argument. If you haven’t checked out this poignant, politics-talking #ThirstTrap yet, our Hasan Piker wiki will certainly give you reason to.

He’s from Turkey

Hasan Piker was born on July 25, 1991 and is 27 years old. He was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey before moving to the U.S.

He was a self-described “outcast” back in his grade school in Turkey. He often got into trouble for questioning the status quo and dreamed of getting out of the “repressed” environment in his home country.

After immigrating to the U.S., he lived in New Jersey where he attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He graduated cum laude in 2013 with a dual bachelor’s degree in political science and communication.

After graduating, he pursed his passion for political journalism and joined The Young Turks YouTube channel. He currently resides and works in Los Angeles, California.

He has a brother who is an aerospace engineer. And like any pair of siblings, he’s the butt of many jokes on Hasan’s Twitter.

Hasan’s mother worked in commercial real estate. He describes her as “the most badass, gorgeous, ambitious, caring, loving, intellectual, feminist woman on the planet.” She made the decision to return to college and pursue her degree in art history focusing on cultural preservation when Hasan was at Rutgers.

He Hosts “Pop Crunch” on TYT

The Young Turks have seen a massive increase in viewership and popularity since Hasan Piker joined Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and Dave Koller’s progressive politics and news channel. He started out working in TYT’s advertising department in 2014, before becoming a full-time content producer for the channel.

He is popular for his show The Breakdown, where he deconstructed arguments by the conservative side as posed by his biggest adversary, Tomi Lahren. His show became a viral hit with Bernie Sanders supporters during the 2016 presidential election and catapulted him to fame as one of the few young voices ardently talking politics.

His relevance and ability to stay relatable while debating earned him the moniker of “Woke Bae,” and he remains undefeated. His sheer visual appeal is just a perk to watching him.

He’s now better known for covering pop culture news and politics on TYT’s Pop Crunch. Piker still takes on opposing viewpoints in debates. Most famously, he has faced off against Ann Coulter and Jesse Lee Peterson over a variety of issues.

He also went viral when he and his boss, Uygur, triggered conservative commentator, Charlie Kirk, at Politicon in 2018. During that debacle, Piker had candidly revealed to Kirk that his salary was $60,000 a year.

Besides his video content on TYT, he contributes to Buzzfeed and Huffington Post. He also joined the Fortnite bandwagon and streams on Twitch.

He Used to Work in Florida

Piker dreamed of coming to the U.S. when he was young. The opportunity came when his parents let him attend the University of Miami.

Within weeks of his arrival in Florida, his good looks got the attention of a nightclub promoter. He was hired to promote nightclubs around South Beach for a brief time.

After two semesters, bringing his GPA to 2.9, Piker’s parents had him transfer to Rutgers. At Rutgers, he joined the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Now he credits his experiences debating with conservative frat bros for his ability to debate on his online shows.
