The Miss America 2017 pageant is on Sunday, September 11 at 9:00 p.m. EST p.m. ABC. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at some facts about the crown hopeful, Miss Maryland, Hannah Brewer.

1) Education Background

Brewer was born and raised in Carroll County, Maryland, where she was home schooled. The bright teen has a 4.0 GPA. She is a sophomore studying business at Carroll County Community College. She will be transferring to McDaniel College, Westminster this fall as part of the Miss Maryland Scholarship program. Brewer hopes to put her education to good use, including supporting social work.

2) Emphasis on Heart Health

Brewer’s aunt died suddenly at the age of 54, due to cardiovascular disease. Her death had quite an impact on the family, many members of which suffer from cardiovascular problems. Her family history with the disease encouraged Brewer to become the national representative of the American Heart Association, an advocate for the “Go Red for Women” campaign, joining the Baltimore Passion Committee and Baltimore AHA advocacy committee. She also met with the Maryland Senators to enforce 30 minutes of physical education in schools daily. She advocates for exercise and keeping fit to keep the heart healthy.

3) Supports the Military

When Brewer was around 13 years old, she was touched by the plight of the returning soldiers. She started making fleece blankets for them and sought donations for her cause. However, the sponsors told her that they only donate to non-profit organizations. Therefore, Brewer started her own non-profit called ‘Hannah’s Heroes’ to support the troops.

4) American Idol Experience

Brewer loves singing and was a top 5 finalist in the Disney’s American Idol Experience. She also sings for patients nursing homes.

5) Pageant Sister
