Is this actually happening??? I just won the preliminary swimsuit award at #MissAmerica!!! I’m so incredibly honored to have been selected from such a strong group of women. I’m also so excited to announce that I was named the 2nd RU to the Quality of Life award. Service is the foundation of the @missamericaorg and I’m so proud to be chosen as an example of what it means to serve others. #MissMaryland #AtlanticCity
1) Education Background
Brewer was born and raised in Carroll County, Maryland, where she was home schooled. The bright teen has a 4.0 GPA. She is a sophomore studying business at Carroll County Community College. She will be transferring to McDaniel College, Westminster this fall as part of the Miss Maryland Scholarship program. Brewer hopes to put her education to good use, including supporting social work.
Dreams really do come true. Last night I was crowned Miss Maryland 2016, the youngest contestant to win the title since 1980. I have had an amazing week competing alongside some of the most talented, intelligent women I have ever met. I am so completely honored to be able to represent the women who I have looked up to for the past 6 years. Thank you to all of the ladies who have supported me this week. You all are so inspiring and I hope we can have a class reunion soon 🙂 Thank you to Carry and David Lang from Regalia Magnificent Apparel for helping me select my dream gown. Thank you to my amazing cheering section. I would not be where I am today without the support of my family and friends. And lastly, thank you to my Lord and savior for the opportunity to serve my state. I have asked you to grant me this dream since I was 8 years old and now I know why you made me wait. I am so ready to take on my year as Miss Maryland and I can’t believe that I will be competing for Miss America on September 11, 2016 in Atlantic City!! 2) Emphasis on Heart Health
Brewer’s aunt died suddenly at the age of 54, due to cardiovascular disease. Her death had quite an impact on the family, many members of which suffer from cardiovascular problems. Her family history with the disease encouraged Brewer to become the national representative of the American Heart Association, an advocate for the “Go Red for Women” campaign, joining the Baltimore Passion Committee and Baltimore AHA advocacy committee. She also met with the Maryland Senators to enforce 30 minutes of physical education in schools daily. She advocates for exercise and keeping fit to keep the heart healthy.
3) Supports the Military
When Brewer was around 13 years old, she was touched by the plight of the returning soldiers. She started making fleece blankets for them and sought donations for her cause. However, the sponsors told her that they only donate to non-profit organizations. Therefore, Brewer started her own non-profit called ‘Hannah’s Heroes’ to support the troops.
4) American Idol Experience
Brewer loves singing and was a top 5 finalist in the Disney’s American Idol Experience. She also sings for patients nursing homes.
5) Pageant Sister
Hannah’s sister, Nicoole Brewer was Miss Pennsylvania 2005. Nicole made it to the top 10 in that year’s Miss America pageant. Looks like beauty runs in the family!
