Gina Rodriguez Didn’t Win at Golden Globes—Still Went Home a Winner

Unfortunately, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez failed to capture her second straight award last night at the Golden Globes. Despite her excitement at once again being nominated for the “Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical” award, which she won last year, she lost this time around to Rachel Bloom of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. But don’t be too upset for her, because she isn’t, thanks to two special people!

Aside from the stream of retweets about her fantastic dress, Rodriguez posted a gift she received from Scream Queens star Jamie Lee Curtis before the event: a literal golden globe! “A gift from @jamieleecurtis at the beginning of the night. ‘We should all go home with globes,’” Rodriguez wrote alongside the picture. The ball isn’t very big—no bigger than a kid’s toy marble—and we can’t even be sure if it’s real gold or not, but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? And who else can say they have a “golden globe” from a show where they didn’t even win? If nothing else, the sentiment behind the gift is touching.

But Jamie Lee Curtis’ gift wasn’t the only reason that the night was still special to Gina Rodriguez. That’s because she took a very special man as her date: her father! “Greatest gift is being able to take my father to tonight’s @goldenglobes these are the moments I will cherish forever. [sic]” she wrote, along with the hashtag, “bestFriend.” She followed this with a similarly cute picture of her watching her dad enjoy a stylist preparing him for the big night. “When you get ready for the @goldenglobes with your bestie,” she wrote, in case the previous hashtag didn’t make it clear how much she loves and respects her father.

Her Instagram followers also got a taste of the father-daughter love. Rodriguez posted a photo of her and her dad posing on the red carpet, but it was the caption that fans loved: “My best friend. My muse. My ride or die. My homeboy. I love you pops. #goldenglobes #LastOne #ButTheBestOne [sic].” In addition to the 6,500-plus likes were numerous comments praising the actress for recognizing her father and the role he played in her success. One fan put it perfectly with their comment, writing, “Awesome! Thanks @hereisgina for reminding us not to forget where we come from!”

While she may not have walked away with the award for two years running, Gina Rodriguez was the big winner of the night in our books. Congratulations to her!
