Actor Gary Busey, 71, has confirmed that he’ll be competing for the Mirror Ball trophy on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. But he didn’t just make the announcement on social media, like other celebrities do—he showed up on the late-night stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live dressed as a bedazzled cowboy and riding a white horse to share his “incredible, [life]-changing” news.
When Kimmel asked Busey why he waited so long to join the cast of Dancing with the Stars, the actor simple said, “I didn’t have anything else to do.” And with that, he rode his stallion, which was also adorned with glittery red garb, around Kimmel’s studio. He then asked the audience to make sure they voted for him, and then he left the set.
Although he’s mostly known for his films—such as Lethal Weapon, Point Break, Rookie of the Year, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas—this certainly isn’t Gary Busey’s first foray into reality television. The Lethal Weapon actor appeared on (and actually won) Celebrity Big Brother and has participated in two rounds of Celebrity Apprentice.
Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars debuts on September 14. Other confirmed contestants include celebrity chef Paula Deen, former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, 14-year-old Bindi Irwin, singers Chaka Khan and Andy Grammer, reality star and musical artist Tamar Braxton, YouTube star Hayes Grier, and horse jockey Victor Espinoza.
