It’s time for another season of the summer’s best show as Game of Thrones season 7 premieres. But those of you who have not caught up, or need a reminder, we have full episode recaps for season 2. Game of Thrones is airing its seventh season on July 16, 2017. With so much going on, fans of the show might need a reminder about what happened so far in the show. For those who have not watched the show, we have put together a thorough look of what you need to know leading up to the season 7 premiere. Episode 1: “The North Remembers”

Overview

An order to kill the bastard sons of Robert Baratheon is given by his brother, Stannis. One bastard, Gendry, manages to escape King’s Landing. Daenerys Targaryen has no choice but to send riders in search of land to occupy, as her people are dying in the Red Waste.

Tyrion Lannister is now Hand of the King, leaving his sister Cersei uneasy about her father’s decision. In Dragonstone, Stannis Baratheon pledges himself to Mellisandre’s god while staking his claim to the Iron Throne, and reveals that Joffrey is a bastard. Stannis then orders his soldiers to kill Robert’s bastards, including Gendry who escapes King’s Landing with Arya Stark. Robb Stark offers a deal of peace with the Lannisters in exchange for the North’s independence and his sister Sansa’s return. This results in Theon Greyjoy working to gain his father, Balon’s trust and sends Catelyn to ally herself with Renly Baratheon, who also intends to take over the Iron Throne. In Essos, Daenerys Targaryen’s people are slowly dying in Red Waste, so she sends her riders to survey the area.

Episode 2: “The Night Lands”

Overview

Theon sees his family for the first time in nine years after bringing Robb’s message to his father, only to be seen as a disappointment. Tyrion exiles Lord Slynt after doubting his allegiance. Daenerys receives a shocking message from her enemy while in Red Waste. Meanwhile Jon discovers one of the wildlings, Craster sacrificing his newborn child.

Theon Greyjoy returns to Pyke, where he is reunited with his sister Yara, and father Balon, who is dispointed in his son for being too much like a Northerner. Tyrion speaks with Lord Janos Slynt about his loyalties and soon exiles him to the Wall. On the way to the Wall, where she plans to see Jon, Arya tells Gendry who she actually is. North of the Wall, Sam Tarly is approached by a pregnant Free Folk named Gilly, who fears for her baby, but Jon raises his concerns about her. One of Daenerys’ horses returns with the severed head of its rider in a bag. At night, Jon sees Craster lurking around with his newborn baby and followed him to see the wildling sacrificing the child to the White Walkers. Before he could do anything about it, Craster knocks Jon unconscious.

Episode 3: “What Is Dead May Never Die”

Overview

Yara and her father have attacked the North, and Theon betrays the Starks. Jon learns that he is not the only one who knew about Craster when they are attacked by the Lannisters.

Catelyn arrives at Renly’s camp to negotiate the terms of their allegiance. In the North, Balon plans an attack with Yara taking the lead. Theon burns a warning letter to Robb before returning to his family’s side. Jon discovers that Jeor Mormont, the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, already knew about Craster’s crimes. Meanwhile, new recruits of the Night’s Watch are attacked by Lannister soldiers. Arya is taken prisoner and says that Gendry is dead.

Episode 4:”Garden of Bones”

Overview

Joffrey abuses Sansa in retaliation to Robb’s wins, while Tyrion finds out about an intimate relationship between Cersei and their cousin Lancel. Daenerys finally arrives at the prosperous city of Qarth where she is welcomed.

Catelyn attempts to present a solution to Stannis and Renly’s by asking them to join forces against the Lannisters. Stannis agrees under the condition that Renly submits to him. Because Robb proves to be successful in his endeavors, Joffrey abuses Sansa. Tyrion finds out that there is an incestuous relationship between Cersei and their cousin Lancel, and uses that knowledge to threaten to expose them to Joffrey. Arya and Gendry are taken to the castle of Harrenhal, where captives are tortured to death. But Tywin chooses Arya to be a servant, thinking she is just an imprisoned boy. Daenerys arrives at the gates of Qarth after a long and tedious journey, when Daxos of the Council of the Thirteen convinces others to allow her entry.

Episode 5: “The Ghost of Harrenhal”

Overview

The shadowy creature Mellisandre gives birth to kills Renly and the blame is placed on Catelyn and Brienne of Tarth who have no choice but to flee. Tyrion is told about the Wildfire that could destroy Stannis’ army. Daxos offers Daenerys the Seven Kingdoms in exchange for her hand in marriage.

Arya helps H’gaar, one of the three caged prisoners in Harrenhal, and he pledges to kill three people of her choice. She first chooses the man called the Tickler, who tortures prisoners. Mellisandre gave birth to Stannis’ child, a shadowy creature, that kills Renly. Catelyn and Brienne of Tarth are accused of his death and escape the camp. Lancel tells Tyrion about the Wildfire that could destroy Stannis’ fleet. In Qarth, Daxos offers Daenerys the Seven Kingdoms in exchange for her hand in marriage but Jorah convinces her to earn the trust of the Westerosi people instead.

Episode 6: “The Old Gods and the New”

Overview

Theon succeeds in taking over Winterfell. Joffrey is almost killed when he invokes a riot at King’s Landing. Daenerys is looking for a vessel to take her people to Westeros when her dragon are stolen.

Theon is takes over Winterfell, and kills a henchman named Cassel in the process. Osha, the captured wildling helps Bran and Rickon escape from Winterfell. At the Fist of the First men, Jon captures a wildling named Ygritte, but she flees from his watch and he chases her. Joffrey provokes a riot in King’s Landing which almost kills him, and almost results in Sansa’s rape. A guard suspects Arya is not who she pretends to be, so she asks H’ghar to kill him. Robb learns about Winterfell and sends his men to take back his kingdom. In Qarth, Daenerys is trying to find a ship to sail to Westeros while avoiding Daxos when her dragons are stolen.

Episode 7: “A Man Without Honor”

Overview

Sansa discovers that she is now a woman and can bear Joffrey’s children but is scared to tell anyone. Jamie tries to escape Robb’s camp, leaving a guard dead. In Qarth, Daenerys learns Pree stole her dragons and kills the Council of Thirteen before letting her see them again.

In King’s Landing, Sansa gets her first period, and learns that she can bear Joffrey’s children, but is scared to tell Cersei. The queen finds out and advises Sansa that the only people she must ever love are her children. In Qarth, a warlock named Pree approaches Daenerys, telling her that he stole her dragons and kills the Council of Thirteen, naming Daxos their king. Theon shows the charred body of two young boys he claims are Bran and Rickon Stark.

Episode 8: “The Prince of Winterfell”

Overview

Robb learns that his mother freed Jamie Lannister. Arya and her companions try to escape Tywin’s clutches. Cersei blackmails Tyrion by finding his alleged mistress, and threatens to kill her. Daenerys attempts to save her dragons with Jorah’s help.

Catelyn secretly freed Jamie to trade him for Sansa and Arya. When Robb learns of this, he makes sure she is always being watched. Tywin leaves Harrenhal to kill Robb, which gives Arya, Gendry and their friend Hot Pie to escape with the help of H’ghar. In King’s Landing, Cersei attempts to blackmail Tyrion by kidnapping a prostitute she believes is his mistress. Jon is captured by the wildlings whose leader, Rattleshirt takes him to their king, Rayder. Members of the Night’s Watch find dragonglass. Daenerys accepts Jorah’s help to go to the House of the Undying to free her dragons. It is revealed that the youngest Stark boys are alive.

Episode 9: “Blackwater”

Overview

The war at King’s Landing begins, but Tyrion uses Wildfire to stun Stannis, taking the fight to land. Joffrey escapes while his kingdom is being attacked. Tywin’s forces, headed by Loras, defeat the Baratheon army.

At King’s Landing, Stannis approached with his fleet. Before they can get too close, Tyrion sends a boat with Wildfire that blows up Stannis’ strength, forcing him to fight on land. The Hound leads the defense outside the gates but fails and returns inside denouncing Joffrey who escapes while Baratheon forces march inside the castle. Tyrion leads his men through an underground tunnel. Cersei goes to the throne room with the intent to kill Tommen. Tyrion leaves wounded, while Tywin and Loras’ men defeat the Baratheon army, forcing them to retreat.

Episode 10: “Valar Morghulis”

Overview

Joffrey takes an interest in Margaery and tells her that he will marry her. Daenerys frees her dragons. Arya and H’ghar part ways as he gives her a gift. Jon kills Qhorin and the White Walkers surround the Fist of the First Men.

Joffrey reveals that he wants to marry the recently widowed Margaery, despite being betrothed to Sansa. He also names Tywin Hand of the King relieving Tyrion from the post. Catelyn fails to convince Robb to not marry Talisa, whom he began a relationship with shortly after his mother freed Jaime. In Qarth, Daenerys is successful in freeing her dragons who kill Pree. She then locks Daxos in his chamber and takes his treasures for herself. Arya and her companions have now escaped, and come across H’ghar who gives her a coin that can be used to call him, before he transforms himself into another man and walks away. At the Wall, Qhorin forces Jon to kill him to prove his loyalty to the wildlings while an army of White Walkers surround the Fist of the First Men.
