The nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) were announced earlier today and once again, Game of Thrones came out on top. The hit HBO series and its stellar cast earned a total of three nominations, which might not sound like much, but it actually tied with Homeland and House of Cards for the most nominations in the television category.
For the upcoming 2016 SAG Awards, to be held on January 30, the whole cast of Game of Thrones is in the running for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.” The show has also been nominated for “Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble,” which they stand a good chance of winning, given the fact that the show’s stunt team has taken home a trophy every year since 2012 (the first year it was eligible for the SAG Awards).
The third SAG Awards nomination is for actor Peter Dinklage—the Game of Thrones lead will be going up against notable actors like Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) for the title of best male performance in a drama series.
It’s definitely going to be a good year at the SAG Awards for HBO’s roster—in addition to Game of Thrones, their shows Veep and Bessie also got SAG nominations. In honor of their frontrunners, the network posted a note of congratulations on Twitter.
