The new Fast & Furious trailer launched Friday, marking the series’ eighth installment. Also known as The Fate of the Furious, or Furious 8 the film was directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Chris Moran.

The stars of the Fast & Furious 8 cast welcome back many of the same faces, except for actor Paul Walker (Brian O’Conner), who sadly passed away November 30, 2013 due to a single-vehicle crash. Fast 8 will be the second film of the franchise not to star Walker. The idea to pursue an eighth film, was inspired in part by something Walker said. Vin Diesel, who playsDominic Toretto in the franchise, told MTV, “Paul [Walker] used to say that eight was guaranteed. And in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you sometimes feel like you have to make sure it comes to pass.” He added, “So if fate has it, fate, F8… if fate has it, then you’ll get this when you hear about it. Seven was for Paul, eight is from Paul.”

Furious 7 was the most emotional film of the entire franchise, since Paul Walker passed away in a tragic accident mid-way through the production schedule. The end of the film offered a beautiful send-off for the late star, and fans are curious to see how Fast 8 will pick up from there.

The Fate of the Furious hits theatres April 14, 2017. The official synopsis reads:

“Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime, he can’t seem to escape a betrayal of those closest to him, and they will face trials that will test them as never before. From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.”
