Looks like the secret’s out! Erin Heatherton leaves contract with Victoria’s Secret after being told to lose more weight for an upcoming show. Is Erin Heatherton really fat? Most people with eyes would disagree with Victoria’s Secret’s issue with Heatherton’s weight!
The 27-year-old model ended her five-year contract with the popular lingerie brand in order to focus on her health after they suggested that she lose more weight. Have they seen her figure lately? If she loses anymore, she’ll weigh less than her own hair!
In a recent interview with TIME magazine’s Motto, the supermodel was informed by Victoria’s Secret to lose weight since she wasn’t thin enough to star in their annual fashion shows. “My last two Victoria’s Secret shows, I was told to lose weight [sic],” she said. “I look back like, ‘Really?’” We can only imagine the confusion on her face.
According to Huffington Post, Heatherton worked for the lingerie giant for five years and would exercise twice a day to “please the people she was working for.” But that never seemed to be enough for them; she went on to say that her body “just wouldn’t do it.” She explained to Huffington Post: “I was really depressed and I was working so hard and I felt like my body was resisting me. And I got to a point where one night I got home from a workout, and I remember staring at my food and thinking, ‘Maybe I should just not eat’.”
She continues, “I realized I couldn’t go out into the world—parading my body and myself to all these women who look up to me—and tell them that this is easy and simple and everyone can do this.”
What people may not realize is that modeling as a job seems easy, but the body maintenance that comes with it is the hardest part, especially for a woman. Companies often encourage their models to be a size zero simply because companies are contractually allowed to make such demands.
According to Huffington Post, since leaving Victoria’s Secret, Heatherton, who is featured in Sports Illustrated’s 2016 swimsuit issue, has been working on loving and accepting herself.
“I’m willing to sacrifice my pride, in a sense, and my privacy, because I know that if I don’t speak about it, I could be withholding information that would really help women. It hurts too much to keep it in, and that’s why I’m not keeping it in now,” she explained. (And good for her!)
The model took to Instagram last month to reflect on her image struggles and insecurities, writing a lengthy post accompanied with a photo and her shirt saying, “Empowered by Failure.”
“I was struggling with my body image and the pressures to fulfill the demands of perfectionism upon me. I am not perfect. Through this struggle, however, I found the strength to love myself. I stood in my power.” Does anyone else think of Wonder Woman after hearing those beautiful words?
Victoria’s Secret has yet to comment—and it’s safe to say they probably won’t. But in regards to her weight, it appears that Heatherton gets the last word.
