Apparently money can’t buy you love, as wealthy business magnate Elon Musk’s wife, Talulah Riley, has filed for divorce from the billionaire after about five years of marriage. This is Musk’s second marriage and Riley’s first—although it’s actually their third and second, respectively, if you count that they previously divorced and remarried! Is this a similar speed bump or have the pair called it quits for real this time? Read on to find out.
Elon Musk and Talulah Riley met when Musk was down from the divorce from his previous wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson, whom Musk married in 2000 and divorced in late 2008. A friend of Musk and investor in his company, SpaceX, Bill Lee, managed to get Musk to come with him to London, which at first didn’t go well for the billionaire; he was treated poorly at the Aston Martin factory and had bad stomach pains. However, things would pick up at a West London bar one evening, when he met Riley, herself there at the invite of a club promoter. She would later note that he seemed like a good person after she realized he was totally fixated on her despite the other women around.
The celebrity couple would marry in 2010, though wedded bliss would not last long. Elon Musk’s divorce would be announced on Twitter, of all things, by the man himself, writing, “It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day.” However, that “someone” turned out to be Musk himself as the pair reconciled and remarried in mid-2013. But if things weren’t confusing enough, Musk filed for divorce again in late 2014, only to withdraw it seven months later.
However, this divorce looks to be a lot more final. Not only is it being filed by Talulah Riley rather than Elon Musk, but the split appears to be agreed upon. According to an official statement, the couple, who have been living apart for six months now, will remain friends, though they have nothing forcing them to: the pair has no kids together, with all of Musk’s children having been with Justine Wilson. Still, the fact that they’re choosing to remain on good terms means that there may be a third time and it may be the charm!
