In a 2018 Instagram post, when the separation policy at the border made international headlines, Brown revealed her husband’s incredible empathy for children. According to her, practicing as a pediatrician for over 20 years has given him the ability to distinguish different types of cries from children.

She recalled instances where he could accurately tell if a baby was hungry, hurt, tired, mad, or anything else by the child’s cries. So when he wanted to go to the detention camps where children were reportedly separated from their parents, he said it was because the children’s cries spoke of “terror” and “trauma.”

Brown and Alley are politically outspoken about a number of issues. They not only donated to help immigrants, they also raised funds for them.

Alley and Brown Met as Lifeguards

Then twenty-somethings, Alley and Brown met in 1987 when they were both working as lifeguards at the neighborhood pool. They dated on and off for seven years before officially getting hitched in June 1994.

We met 27 years ago this month – lifeguards who fell in love at the neighborhood pool. Today is our 20th wedding…

The couple has had their fair share of disagreements in their very communicative relationship. Brown, always choosing to give real-life examples in her talks, shares anecdotes of some of their ugly arguments but also their sweet moments. She once shared on her Facebook a cute note Alley left her inviting her to go two-stepping.

Someone left this napkin note on my car at the gym this morning. I was like, "What the heck?" Then I recognized my husband's phone number. He had me at two-stepping. #doyoulikepiñacoladas
