Dean Fleischer-Camp’s Brother Is Comedian Lee Camp
Dean Fleischer-Camp is one of three boys born to Sydney Fleischer and Dr. Norman “Mike” Camp. Dean’s exact age is not known, but he celebrates his birthday on March 1.
Dean and his brothers, Marshall and Lee, were raised in Richmond, Virginia. You might recognize Lee Camp, the stand-up comedian who hosts Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp on RT America. Both Lee and Dean left Richmond for New York, where they attended New York University, their grandfather’s alma mater.
Dean and Lee’s late grandparents served during World War II. While his grandmother was in the U.S. Coast Guard, his grandfather served in the U.S. Navy.

Fleischer-Camp Is a Film Editor and Filmmaker
Growing up in Richmond, comedy and creating movies were defining parts of Dean Fleischer-Camp’s life. “I started making short films with high school friends. One was a parody of an Abbott & Costello routine. Another was about an arrogant bowling team. They weren’t very good, so I decided to go to film school,” said Fleischer-Camp.
The NYU graduate gained visibility when he collaborated with Jenny Slate to create the animated short Marcel the Shell with Shoes On in 2011. The concept of the anthropomorphic shell, with its sequels and New York Times bestselling storybooks, went viral at the start of the 2010s.
Following the success of Marcel, Fleischer-Camp released his first feature film, Fraud, in 2016. Fraud was made in the style of a home movie, following an everyday white American family whose Big Box shopping spree lands them in a pile of debt.
Dean’s works are also seen on his YouTube and Vimeo channels. Besides that, he’s also worked as an editor in Food Party, David, and Stray Day. He’s also directed episodes of the TV series Brody Stevens: Enjoy It, the short film Catherine, and numerous other shorts.

Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate Divorced in 2016
Soon after the success of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, its creators, Dean Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate, got engaged. They got married in 2012 and were thriving in their professional partnership as creators of Marcel.
However, they eventually grew apart before separating in 2016. Their divorce became official while Slate was promoting the film Landline, which dealt with the theme of infidelity.
So when asked about her opinions on relationships in light of her recent split and the reason for it, Slate said, “If we didn’t get divorced, we wouldn’t be able to be friends and we wouldn’t be able to do our work. We had just grown apart, and we love each other. It wasn’t easy, but not bad.”
As she said, Slate and Fleischer-Camp remain good friends. Not long after they separated, she began dating Captain America, Chris Evans, until the pair broke up in 2018. Slate is currently engaged to artist Ben Shattuck, who is from her home state of Massachusetts.
As for Dean Fleischer-Camp, it appears he is more focused on his work these days.
