She Is a Filipino-American
Elaine Mendoza Erfe was born on August 31, 1974 to Filipino parents in Brooklyn, New York. Not much is known about Elaine Chappelle’s family or early life, but it’s clear that she’s proud of her heritage and husband.
Her parents raised her to have Christian values and we can only assume that she and Dave are raising their kids the same way. Reports also suggest in her early years, she had aspirations to become a chef, but clearly those plans were derailed when she married one of the most famous comedians in the world.
Dave Chappelle, who’s from Washington, D.C., rarely speaks about his wife and they almost never appear in public together. Nevertheless, they have been happily married since their wedding in 2001.
One of the couple’s rare sightings was back in 2010, when they attended the annual Philippines-American picnic together in Dayton, Ohio.
Elaine Chappelle is not very active on social media. She is pretty low-key as opposed to her comedic legend hubby. Her Instagram account is set to private.
In an old interview with Howard Stern, Chappelle recalled his first meeting with his then-girlfriend, Elaine. He said that they met when he was in Brooklyn and avoided elaborating. However, he joked that she’s not a mail order bride when Stern prodded him.
With his six-foot frame and larger-than-life personality, Dave Chappelle has the talent of making any person appear pint-sized—including his petite wife.
Elaine Chappelle is a housewife by choice and we think it’s safe to say she has no money troubles. After all, Dave Chappelle has made a pretty penny with his $60.0 million Netflix deal!
Thanks to his comeback, Chappelle’s net worth has spiked to an estimated $50.0 million!
Dave and Elaine Chappelle’s Kids
Elaine and Dave Chappelle are parents to three children. They have two sons, Sulayman and Ibrahim, and a daughter named Sonal.
The comedian converted to Islam in 1998. However, his wife’s religious beliefs apparently haven’t changed.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that Sulayman, Ibrahim, and Sonal have had a multicultural upbringing.
In his signature humor, Chappelle described his small multi-cultural family and said, “My wife is Asian, and my kids have somehow turned out to be Puerto Rican … My mother is half white. If I grew my hair out, you would think it was a Katt Williams concert.”
Their House Is Huge!
Since Chappelle’s wealth counts among A-list comedians like Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy, it’s only natural that he has a luxurious crib. He lives with his wife and their children on a farm that stretches approximately 65 acres!
This farm in Yellow Springs, Ohio, is near Antioch College, where Chappelle’s father, William David Chappelle III, taught music.
After his parents divorced, his mother raised the young Chappelle in Washington, D.C., where he started his stand-up career at 14 years old. After earning big bucks from successful shows and movies, he bought the farmland and several other homes in Yellow Springs.
Chappelle told his neighbors, “Turns out you don’t need $50.0 million to live around these parts, just a nice smile and a kind way about you. You guys are the best neighbors ever. That’s why I came back and that’s why I’m staying.”
She Left Dave Chappelle Speechless
Apparently, even someone as witty as Dave Chappelle can be left tongue-tied! We can’t even imagine Chappelle doing something other than making us laugh. And, neither can he.
When his iconic Chappelle’s Show ended, the comedian sat down for a tell-all interview with MTV. During the interview, he said that his wife once asked what he would do if he was not a comedian, to which Chappelle had no answer.
“This is the only job I’ve had since I was 14,” Chappelle said about his life as a comedian. “My wife asked me once if I weren’t a comedian what I would do. I couldn’t answer the question. I never imagined doing anything else. Maybe until six months ago, anyway.”
We can’t picture Dave Chappelle doing anything else either!
