The Crown season 2 has totally changed the tone of the show, and fans are already speculating what’s to come for season 3. Yes, there is a lot of speculation as Claire Foy says goodbye to her role as Queen Elizabeth II and Olivia Coleman steps in to wear the crown. But who will play Prince Philip? Find out more right here.

The Crown season 2 gripped fans who already became hooked from season 1, but what fans are really looking forward to is The Crown season 3 premiere date! The series writer, Peter Morgan decided he would paint a beautiful picture of the life of the queen in a total of six seasons, and now that we are still on season 2, there is a lot of excitement to look forward to! So, when is The Crown season 3 coming out? Read on to know!

The Crown Season 2 Recap

The Crown gained instant popularity among Netflix fans, and as expected, the spectacular series made its millions in the first season itself! After having a word with the head honcho behind the show, fans were relieved that it wasn’t going to be a short-lived series.

So after season one, when the producers decided to take on the life of the queen in the ’60s, everyone wanted to know in what light she was going to be portrayed in.

Reportedly, in The Crown season 2, fans get to see the queen’s crisis in a domino effect. Not only is she visiting many countries of the world as her duty, but back home, she has to deal with her whining husband Philip and her inappropriate sister Margaret, not to mention her Nazi-loving uncle.

She is trying to save her marriage (as at one point in time Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II sleep in different beds), save her name, and then there are her mixed feelings for Jacqueline Kennedy. All these complications are handled very sensitively.

Another burning question fans are dying to know is, did Prince Philip cheat on Queen Elizabeth II? How will they handle that one on the show?!

Without giving too much away, let’s just say that in season 2, the queen’s plate is definitely full. Not only are the times changing, but the upcoming eras will delve a lot deeper the royal family’s lives. It’s worth every minute of the watch, and what’s better, is we know what will happen in The Crown season 3!

The Crown Season 3 Release Date

If you have already binged watched The Crown season 2, then we suggest you rest your eyes for a while. The Crown season 3 trailer is not going to be out until 2018, so at least until New Years, you can forget about the Royals!

But nobody said anything about forgetting some spoilers! If you want to keep the excitement fresh, then be warned and stop right here.

Firstly, in The Crown season 3, the actor Clair Foy (who plays Queen Elizabeth II) is sadly leaving the show, as the role will now demand an older queen.

“I feel that when we reach 1963-64 we’ve gone as far as we can go with Claire Foy without having to do silly things in terms of makeup to make her look older. She can’t help the fact she’s as young as she is,” said show-runner Peter Morgan.

Enter Olivia Colman. This also means that Prince Philip will also have grown old. And though we all loved Matt Smith as Prince Philip, rumors are afloat that David Tennant is joining Colman on the sets of The Crown seasons 3 and 4!

Is it the Doctor Who charm? We don’t know for sure as reports have not been confirmed, but it’s going to be exciting to see who will play the older Prince Philip! So, keep an eye out for the release of The Crown season 3 in the new year, as they are still in production at the moment.
