When it comes to action stars, there’s something undeniably thrilling about watching them perform their own stunts. The most recent Vin Diesel stunt video that’s surfaced is no exception. Vin Diesel Facebook/Instagram followers were treated to some unique insight into the actor’s stuntman training for his highly anticipated upcoming sequel, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since the beginning of the xXx (Triple X) franchise. It was 2002 when Vin Diesel first started his reign as Xander Cage, a rebellious extreme sports junkie who ends up reluctantly working undercover for the NSA. He was joined by co-star Samuel L. Jackson, who played the agent responsible for sending Xander out on his mission into dangerous Russian mob territory.

After a failed semi-sequel in which neither Diesel nor original director Rob Cohen took part, the excitement for this installment has been mounting, especially since Vin Diesel started teasing the idea back in 2014. Now, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is in full swing, which is the main reason Diesel, one of today’s biggest action stars, has been showing off some of his stuntman work through his social media platforms.

For starters, Vin Diesel’s Instagram page shows a photo of the actor going through some training on what appears to be a dirt bike, and it looks like he’s actually about to take a pretty nasty tumble. The actor explained in his caption, “The training started a little rough early on… Pics like this remind me how far I have come. All for the character.” Thankfully, the Fast and Furious mainstay wasn’t hurt. A follow-up Vin Diesel stunt video shared on Instagram shows him pulling off some stunts, and this time, he managed to stay on the bike.

Vin Diesel’s Facebook page gives a bit more background on his training. Diesel has enlisted the help of a stunt coach all the way from Australia who he says has been helping him train for the past couple of months. The video on Facebook even shows off the xXx star going up and down a short staircase on a KTM bike.

The plot of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage again sees Xander Cage working for the NSA. Returning from a “self-imposed” exile, Xander goes head to head with a new global criminal played by Donnie Yen, replacing the originally cast Jet Li.

Other details of the plot have remained somewhat low-key. There was no reason given for Jet Li’s departure from the film or for Donnie Yen being included. And although Diesel has been actively promoting the upcoming film in addition to his stunts, no one can say for sure exactly what fans can expect.

Samuel L. Jackson is back on the set, which is good news for fans of the franchise. More good news is that this sequel is based on the original xXx movie and has nothing to do with the second State of the Union version, which featured actor/director/rapper Ice Cube in the lead.

Paramount Pictures anticipates a 2017 release date for the action film. In the meantime, it seems Vin Diesel will continue his preparation and stunt work.
