Courtney Stodden was only 16 years old when she married actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time. The celebrity couple met online when Stodden signed up for one of Doug Hutchison’s acting classes. Upon getting her parents’ blessing (and consent), Hutchison and Stodden got engaged before ever meeting in person, and then married very shortly after in May 2011.
The celebrity couple’s 35-year age difference outraged some, and shocked pretty much everyone, but they insisted that their love was bigger than their age difference and that their marriage was 100% genuine. Not surprisingly, Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison’s marriage barely lasted two years, with the now 19-year-old admitting that she wanted to enjoy life as a young, single woman.
Although her fairy tale marriage to an older man didn’t quite work out the way she had hoped, Courtney Stodden says she has no regrets about her decision to marry Doug Hutchison with a quickie wedding in Vegas. “I had no idea what I was getting myself into, to be honest,” Stodden revealed on an episode of True Hollywood Story: Reality Ex Wives. “But it was exciting to me to be with the man I loved and experience my first sexual encounter.” In case you were wondering, she said she was “very, very happy” with Doug Hutchison’s performance in the bedroom.
A lot of people still think that the only reason Courtney Stodden actually went through with the marriage was to get her name out there. If that’s the case, then it worked, because no one would know who she was if it wasn’t for the celebrity couple’s May-December relationship. That would also explain why she has no regrets about her failed marriage—it helped her gain instant fame.
What do you think: Did Courtney Stodden only marry Doug Hutchison so she could get famous?
