What is Coachella?
Coachella is an annual music and arts festival that was founded in 1999 and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Live. This event features artists from various genres from indie to hip hop, as well as installations and sculptures. The main stages are the Coachella Stage, Mojave Tent, Gobi Tent, Outdoor Theater, and the Sahara Tent, with major acts playing each stage throughout the weekend.
When is Coachella?
Coachella started as a one and two-day festival, but has now grown into a two consecutive three-day weekend held in April. This year, Coachella will be held April 14-16 and April 21-23. The 2017 edition of Coachella will have headlining artists: Radiohead, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. This year’s Coachella lineup also includes Travis Scott, Empire of the Sun, Mac Miller, Future, DJ Snake, Gucci Mane, Lorde, Justice, New Order, Dreamcar, Hans Zimmer, and DJ Khaled.
A Showcase for Art and Sculpture
The response to this year’s festival has been so good that Coachella tickets were sold out within hours of being on sale. Apart from the music, there will be an opportunity for artists to showcase their work at Coachella 2017. Many of the pieces are interactive, bringing more people to the festival. Paul Clemente, Coachella’s art director, said, “I think the level of detail and finish and artistry and scale and complexity and technology, everything is constantly getting notched up, ratcheted up. We’re obviously constantly trying to, for lack of a better word, (to) outdo ourselves and make it better for the fans.”
Where is Coachella?
Coachella is in Indio, California, which is located in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley within the Colorado Desert. The 78-acre Empire Polo Club hosts the festival, but the total area taken for parking and camping covers about 600 acres. The site for Coachella is about 125 miles east of Los Angeles.
