Carly Hughes is the show-stealer in ABC’s out-of-the-box sitcom, American Housewife. The talented actress made a smooth transition from musical theater to TV and is winning hearts everywhere. Trace her journey to the top in Carly Hughes’ wiki.

Carly Hughes Grew up in Maryland

Carly Hughes was born in St. Louis, Missouri and celebrates her birthday on October 1, though her age is still a mystery. Her family later moved to Columbia, Maryland where she was raised.

She attended Wilde Lake High School in Columbia and graduated a year early in 2000. In Columbia, she says she was exposed to multiculturalism and diversity, which helped her in her performing career.

In her youth, she took dance classes, concert choir, and theater shop in addition to the regular academics. She also went on an exchange program in Spain.

Among her many talents, she dances tap, jazz, and ballroom; speaks Spanish; and sings soprano.

Carly Hughes Worked on Broadway before TV

Hughes graduated from Penn State University in 2004 with a BFA in musical theater and moved to New York to pursue her theater career. She went on to establish herself as a multi-talented artist in regional theater and Broadway.

She became the theater critics’ darling with her onstage charm, having starred in eight Broadway productions, including Pippin, Chicago, GHOST: The Musical, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She was so good, she received the prestigious Princess Grace Award for Acting and Excellence in the Arts in 2003.

After shining onstage, Hughes soon displayed her acting skills in front the camera. After a guest appearance in Curb Your Enthusiasm, she bagged the recurring role of Etta Mae in Netflix’s Insatiable.

She’s best known for her role as Angela on ABC’s American Housewife, which she’s had since 2016. Angela is a divorced lesbian mom and Katie Otto (Katy Mixon) and Doris’ (Ali Wong) BFF.

She’s Off the Market

Carly Hughes may play a lesbian on American Housewife, but off camera, she’s in a relationship with a guy. Rory Cook is the lucky man who gets to call himself Carly Hughes’ boyfriend.

Carly Hughes Was on Hell’s Kitchen

The shoe-obsessed, lobster-loving, craft and knitting aficionado loves cooking in her spare time. She had a minor appearance on Hell’s Kitchen where she wasn’t cooking.

However, Hughes’ Instagram is where the party’s at. You can check out her amazing meals and nifty DIY projects on the platform.

Her Mother Is a Cancer Survivor

Hughes comes from a large family. Her mother is one of eight children and her father is one of seven children.

Her mother’s father was an American soldier who fought in World War II. And her mother is nothing short of a fighter, too.

Carly’s mom battled breast cancer and, as of an update on March 8, 2019, she’s officially cancer free.
