She collapsed in her bathroom on December 20, 2009, in Los Angeles, California. Five months later, Brittany Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, was also found unconscious in their Hollywood house on May 23, 2010. Thomas’ novel, The White Hotel, about one of Sigmund Freud’s patients, and planned to cast Brittany Murphy in a leading role.

A Quiet Private Wedding
Monjack and Murphy’s wedding took place at their Los Angeles home. It was a private Jewish ceremony, and the couple did not tell anyone of their engagement beforehand. They also had fewer public appearances before their marriage. This was Monjack’s second marriage as he tied the knot to Simone Bienne in November 2001 in Las Vegas. Their marriage barely lasted five months before they separated. The couple finally divorced five years later. It was also in 2006 that Monjack met Murphy and the two started dating. Simon Monjack had one child before marrying Murphy, but was planning to have children with his second wife.
Health Problems
Simon Monjack’s death was reportedly a result of health issues he had in the past. In fact, his mother told People in January 2010 that her son was “unwell, and the doctors are carrying out tests. On whether he has a heart problem, it is not really for me to say, you must ask him, but yes, there have been health problems in the past. I believe it’s common knowledge, and it’s been in the press that he had a slight heart attack a week before Brittany’s death.” Monjack was buried next to Murphy at Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills.

Before his death, Monjack was embroiled in several legal issues, including a charge for credit card fraud in Virginia, and being sued for $470,000 by Coutts Bank. In February 2007, he faced the threat of deportation as his United States visa expired, leading to his arrest and imprisonment for nine days.
