Legendary singer Billy Joel, 66, and his new younger wife, 33-year-old Alexis Roderick, welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, on the morning of August 12 at 2:40 a.m. People magazine reports that the couple named her Della Rose Joel and she weighed in at seven pounds and six-and-a-half ounces at birth.
A source told the magazine, “Billy is thrilled to become a dad again.” He is also the father to Alexa Ray, 29, from his previous marriage to model Christie Brinkley.
Joel has been married three times before Alexis Roderick, an established equestrian. They tied the knot in a surprise wedding over the Fourth of July weekend in Long Island. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo presided over the ceremony.
It appears that just as Roderick went into labor, Joel made it to New York in a helicopter—he arrived just in time. The musician likely got word while he was out of town on tour business. (He has been playing shows nationwide.)
In addition to caring for his newborn baby, Billy Joel will also have his hands full juggling a busy career, which shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, just a few days before his wedding, Billy Joel stole the record from Elton John for the most solo shows performed in Madison Square Garden. His tour is expected to resume tonight (August 13) and will go on until December this year.
