When you have an empire worth $250 million like Beyoncé Knowles does, money is obviously no object (especially when you’re married to the third richest hip hop artist, 45-year-old Jay Z, who is worth $550 million). And yet it’s still mind-blowing how one person can drop thousands—$312,000 to be exact—on a single pair of shoes.
To be fair, these aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill footwear. Beyoncé purchased the Princess Diamond Constellation stilettos designed by Christopher Michael Shellis, owner of the U.K.-based jeweler The House of Borgezie. The shoes are encrusted with over a thousand diamonds totaling 65.5 carats, and according to the designer’s web site, they’re available with the diamonds set in platinum or 18-carat gold. (There’s no word on which version Beyoncé picked.)
The singer’s camp reportedly approached the designer after seeing the shoes in an article, because she wanted to buy them to wear in one of her upcoming music videos. “If you want someone to model your creations, you can’t get any better than Beyoncé,” said Shellis, who previously described the shoes as his “finest work so far,” adding that they’re “the crown jewels of stilettos.”
Believe it or not, the fancy footwear won’t be the only thing to stand out in the music video—Beyoncé will be pairing the diamond stilettos with a gold, corset-style belt that she also bought from Borgezie for a whopping $85,000.
