For the past week, everyone been sharing their own thoughts and views on dealing with ISIS and the threat of terrorism in the U.S. Actress and singer Bette Midler joined the conversation this morning and made her own suggestion for combating the extremist militant group.
Earlier this morning, Midler posted on Twitter, “If we’re looking to defeat ISIS, just wait until Thanksgiving. After dinner, every drunk uncle in America will unveil his foolproof plan!”
Obviously the tweet was intended to be a joke, and most of the people who commented on it were able to see that. Not everyone saw the humor in her joke, tie though. For instance, one of Midler’s followers commented, “Your Tweets usually make me laugh, but I can’t find the humor in this one,” and cited the recent attacks in Paris, implying that Midler’s post was insensitive. However, another fan quickly came to her defense by replying to the comment with, “She’s not mocking the attacks.”
Nonetheless, over 220 fans liked it enough to retweet it for their own followers. After all, it isn’t the first time Midler has added her comedic flair to otherwise serious topics, like earlier this month when she commented on the news report about Marco Rubio using his GOP credit card for personal expenses. Midler tweeted, “Marco Rubio used his Florida @GOP credit card to pay for his minivan repairs. Come on, if you’re going to embezzle, at least get a cool car!”
