“Our team is the elite of the elite.” That’s the opening line from Baywatch, the movie, starring Dwyane Johnson and Zac Efron. The action-comedy just released their trailer on YouTube and now everyone wants to get to know the Baywatch 2017 cast.
Most of the details surrounding the film have been kept under wraps, including the background of its characters. Even with reboots, the backgrounds and storylines aren’t always the same as what other generations have grown up with.
About the Movie
Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), the ‘90s hit TV series is making a comeback with its signature red bathing suits, trunks, abs and slow motion runs. The movie is about a rulebook-toting lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to work with a young and reckless new lifeguard (Efron) in order to save their beach from environmental disaster from an oil tycoon.
Meet the Baywatch Cast:
Johnson is an actor who needs no introduction and whenever there’s an offer to be in an action or comedy movie, he needs very little persuasion. One has to wonder where he finds the energy, but then again, just look at him! Not only is Johnson starring in the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, he’s diving into character at a theater near you as Mitch Buchannon! The role was originally played by Baywatch alum, David Hasselhoff, who is also making an appearance in the cinematic reboot. Let’s hope he does “The Hoff” proud!
Johnson’s Buchannon takes his job very seriously, saving men and women from anything on fire and isn’t too thrilled when he has to work with Efron’s, Matt Brody. Buchannon discovers a dead body on the beach and wants to investigate, despite Matt telling him to leave it alone.
The young Neighbors 2 star is at it again, playing another athletic and equally conceited fraternity-type character, as Matt Brody. Efron already cried when he got to meet gold medal Olympian Simone Biles, but now he gets to play a two-time gold medalist of his own! Efron’s character is hired as a lifeguard to help revive the Baywatch brand, which is in danger. So naturally they hired Matt, sent by the PR gods—or that’s at least how the trailer makes it look. Matt is young and the higher ups hope his celebrity status can help save their image. Naturally, Matt and Buchannon have to work on the case of a dead body and how it got there.
The Quantico star is used to saving the world, not destroying it. But when she got the call to join the Baywatch cast, Chopra couldn’t have been more willing. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, Chopra said that she always wanted to play a villain and now she gets the chance to, as Victoria Leeds. Nothing else is known about Victoria, but it’s safe to say that she has something to do with the catastrophe that strikes. She only made a very brief cameo in the trailer (along with her plunging neck line) but fans can expect her to be at the center of the disaster. We also think it’s great that Chopra is mixing it up and lacing up her bad girl boots!
Kelly Rohrbach is playing Baywatch’s CJ Parker and she has already received the Dwayne Johnson stamp of approval. Johnson took to Instagram to praise his new cast mate, referring to her as a “smoke stack” when he heard of her hiring. The young model/actress is finally going to put her slow motion running skills to the test. Speaking of the best slow-motion Baywatch run, Pamela Anderson (who played the original CJ Parker) will also be making a cameo in the film!
Alexandra Daddario is set to play Baywatch’s Summer Quinn and she and Efron’s character, Matt seem to get off on the wrong foot. Matt gets caught looking at Summer’s chest in the trailer, and Summer doesn’t approve, despite the playful flirting. Daddario was short listed for the role, beating X-Men: Apocalypse star Alexandra Shipp and The Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev.
Baywatch hits theaters on May 2017. Stay tuned for the exact date and watch the exclusive trailer below!
