Seattle Seahawks quarterback and current highest-paid player in the NFL Russell Wilson is married to R&B diva Ciara. Together, they are parents to a daughter, Sienna, while Wilson is also stepfather to Ciara’s son, Future. Before tying the knot with the songstress, however, Wilson was married to Ashton Meem. Ashton Meem and Russell Wilson Were High School Sweethearts

Molly and Lang Meem’s only child, Ashton Meem, was born on September 6, 1987 and grew up in Richmond, Virginia, the hometown of NFL pro Russell Wilson. While Wilson attended Collegiate School, Meem was a student at St. Catherine’s School, both located in Richmond.

Though in separate schools, Meem and Wilson met and began dating during their high school years. “We met briefly in high school,” recalled Meem. “Then again at a summer party and after that started seeing each other.”

They continued their relationship, even as they went to different colleges. Meem initially left for the University of Georgia. Meanwhile, Wilson redshirted for North Carolina State University before transferring to the University of Wisconsin, from where he would ultimately graduate.

While her then-boyfriend was still at NC State, Meem had transferred to the same university to be with him.

Meem and Russell Married in 2012

After dating throughout high school and college, Meem and a pre-NFL Russell began talking about marriage. Nonetheless, Russell managed to surprise her on August 1, 2010, when he proposed to her.

He took a blindfolded Meem to the presidential suite of a North Carolina hotel and spa and proposed, with the help of their pet pocket beagle, Penny.

They tied the knot at the Country Club of Virginia on January 14, 2012, with 300 guests in attendance. Ashton planned their wedding with spectacular detail, a task she enjoyed so much that she considered opening her own boutique wedding planning company.

Meem and Wilson Divorced in 2014

Shortly after their wedding, Wilson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 NFL draft. However, after two years of marriage, Wilson and Meem divorced in April 2014.

“Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy,” Wilson said in a statement back then. “Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”

The reason behind their divorce was never revealed, which is unusual, since Wilson spoke about his wife often during his first two years in the NFL. Meem and Wilson were active in charities together, but months before announcing their divorce, sightings of them together became less frequent.

It made people speculate that infidelity was the reason for their sudden split. Ashton became embroiled in rumors that she cheated on Wilson with another NFL player, Golden Tate.

Meem and Wilson never responded to the rumors. However, Tate denied he was involved with Meem on several occasions.

The rumors about Meem cheating on Wilson are unfounded and Tate claims that Meem remains a close friend of his now-wife, Elise Tate.

Where Is Ashton Meem Now?

Wilson moved on from his first marriage and has been married to R&B singer Ciara since 2016. It’s not known if Ashton has remarried, but it appears she’s doing well on the career front.

After studying advertising at the University of Georgia and acquiring her bachelor’s degree in communications from NC State, she began working in advertising. She didn’t open that wedding planning company, but she does well in advertising.

While she was in college, Meem interned at Lewis Media Partners and McKinney. Soon after graduating, she found a job as an account executive at Richmond-based Morton Consulting.

Since 2011, Meem has worked in advertising operations for American Family Insurance. She now lives in Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina.

She did get some unsavory attention in 2016, when her ex-husband got engaged to Ciara. Seemingly in response to Wilson’s engagement, Meem changed her Twitter profile picture to her old engagement ring.

Many thought she was shading Wilson’s then-fiancée by posting the picture of her ring, which reportedly was a whopping eight carats. Wilson proposed to Ciara with a five-carat ring, but experts claim Ciara’s ring has a higher clarity.

Meem’s Twitter no longer features that ring and has been switched to private.
