The Black-ish prequel spinoff Mixed-ish premiered on September 24 on ABC. And there’s one starlet you need to keep an eye on. Arica Himmel is the rising young actress playing the younger version of Rainbow Johnson, the character portrayed by Tracee Ellis Ross in the primary series. Mixed-ish will be Arica’s breakout role to date, but she’s no newbie to this industry. And she’s not very different to her character either, as you’ll see in our Arica Himmel wiki.

Arica Himmel’s Mother Is Liberian Singer Zelma Davis
Arica Himmel was born on February 23, 2005 and is from New York. She is the younger of two daughters born to Zelma Davis and Brandon Himmel.
Liberian-born American singer Zelma Davis is nothing short of famous herself. Primarily associated with C+C Music Factory, she has won American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, MTV VMAs, and has a Grammy nomination to her name.
Much like Rainbow Johnson, Arica, and her elder sister, Zoe Himmel, grew up in a mixed-race family. Their father, Brandon Himmel, is a realtor based in New York and also manages Zoe’s career.
Zelma and Brandon are proud and doting parents. As Zelma once said in an interview, her husband, daughters, and music make her life worth living.
Being biracial herself, Arica relates to Rainbow and hopes that she can help other biracial kids through Mixed-ish. “I want people to feel like they’ve been helped one by one by the show. I want people to think wow…watching the show has steered me in the right direction, its made me feel like I’m not alone. I’m unique. I’m special,” said Arica.

Arica Performed in Theater
Arica Himmel started her showbiz career at a young age, making her theatrical debut in the off-Broadway play The Layover with the Manhattan-based theater company Second Stage Theater.
She graduated to working on TV, with a recurring role in the comedy series Thanksgiving in 2016. Arica went on to appear in Sesame Street, Before You Know It, and, most recently, God Friended Me.
Mixed-ish is set to be her breakout role and the newcomer is already earning rave reviews for her acting. When she found out she got the role, she was in California eating dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack with her dad. They celebrated her big break by going to Disneyland the next day.
It’s a dream come true for Himmel who called Black-ish a “groundbreaking” show. “As a biracial girl, it’s exciting to portray a character in the spinoff Mixed-ish who I can relate to in specific ways. And what an honor it is to work with and learn from a cast of immense talent,” said the starlet.
Having Tracee Ellis Ross for a role model and inspiration is a bonus to Arica.
Arica’s Sister Is also an Actress
The performing talent seems to run in the family, because Arica’s sister Zoe is a young artist, too. Zoe studied at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York and Berklee College of Music in Boston.
She has appeared in commercials and is working towards her acting career while in California.
