Halsey and Andrew Taggart, one half of the EDM duo, The Chainsmokers have sparked dating rumors by their steamy live performance of their hit song “Closer” at the MTV VMAs this Sunday. This isn’t the first time the duo and Halsey performed to a full house at Madison Square Garden. A couple of weeks ago, The Chainsmokers were surprise guest performers at Halsey’s Madison Square Garden concert of her Badlands tour. While speculations of who is Halsey dating and whether Taggart is Halsey’s boyfriend have been simmering for some time now, their VMA performance showcased their palpable chemistry.
“Closer” is the first hit for both The Chainsmokers and Halsey to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 list and fans were dying to watch them perform live. It was also the artists’ first time performing at the VMAs. Yet they owned the stage and Taggart and Halsey proved just how close they are.
Halsey sang her part in “Closer’ in her signature risqué attire, which consisted of white pants and a very short crop top. It was when the two singers were face-to-face that things got steamy, as they belted out the most evocative line, “we ain’t ever getting older” from the song. Taggart and Halsey were flirtatious and handsy with each other, almost enacting the song they were singing. At one point it even looked like they were about to kiss!
The Chainsmokers have had other hit songs in the past like, “Don’t let me down” and “Roses,” but it was “Closer” that built a presence, not only for the DJ duo, but also for Halsey. Through this duet, Halsey’s vocals have brought the not-so-typical teen pop-star into the limelight. The dance number’s expressive lyrics paired with both of the singer’s vocal ranges made the song a chart-topper and did not disappoint last night’s crowd at the MMVAs.
Fans wanted a live performance of the duet and they got it… and much more! Taggart and Halsey bathed in the positive reception during the performance as they teased with some almost-smooches. No doubt after this performance, rumors of romance between Halsey and The Chainsmokers aren’t going to die anytime soon.
