Princess Charlene, 36, has said in the past—on more than one occasion—that she’s ready to have kids with her much older husband, 56-year-old Prince Albert of Monaco. Her wish has now been granted, because the royal couple is officially expecting their first child. The palace of Monaco released an official statement confirming the celebrity couple’s pregnancy news, adding that the baby is expected to arrive at the end of 2014.
This is Princess Charlene’s first child, while Prince Albert already has two kids, aged 12 and 10, from past relationships.
The timing for kids couldn’t be better for this celebrity couple. Although their May-December relationship was rumored to be on the rocks before and even shortly after tying the knot in 2011, they’ve managed to hold on to their marriage. In fact, they seem to be happier than ever.
Princess Charlene recently did an interview with ¡Hola! magazine (the Spanish version of Hello! magazine), in which she refers to her older husband has her “biggest support,” adding that they’ve made their marriage work by fighting for what they believe in, forgiving, moving forward, and not giving up. Princess Charlene also told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair that she has “boundless confidence” in her May-December relationship with Prince Albert and in her love for the older man.
