If you’ve ever wondered how celebrity couples make it in Hollywood, Orange Is the New Black star Alycia Reiner is offering some insight—it all has to do with finding your perfect match.
The 45-year-old actress is married to actor David Alan Basche, who stars on the comedy series The Exes, and she says the reason their marriage is so successful is because they both followed their hearts. Reiner admitted in a recent interview during New York Fashion Week that when she first met Basche, he was a waiter who was “below broke” and “deep in debt.” But she didn’t let that stop her from getting to know him.
As such, her advice for finding the ideal husband is simple: “When you’re looking for a mate, don’t look at his current status, but his present potential that will become a part of his future.” That once broke waiter is probably worth much more now, having starred in several popular television series and films.
Meanwhile, his famous wife has skyrocketed in popularity, thanks to her role as Natalie Figueroa, the twisted assistant warden, on Orange Is the New Black. In fact, it was her acting skills that first brought the celebrity couple together. “Alysia and I met at a summer camp, and I thought she was just going to be a summer fling until she opened her mouth,” admitted Basche, adding that he was hooked the moment he heard her perform Shakespeare “so eloquently and with purpose.”
