Alec Baldwin is making headlines again, but for once it has nothing to do with an angry outburst or Twitter rant. The 55-year-old actor’s young wife, 29-year-old Hilaria Thomas, gave birth to their daughter, Carmen Gabriela, on August 23. Both mom and baby are said to be doing well—the celebrity couple was spotted bringing their new baby home two days later.

This is Baldwin and Thomas’ first child together. Baldwin is already the father of 17-year-old Ireland Baldwin, his daughter with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger. The teen shared her joy about the birth of her new sister by writing a heartfelt, but cautionary, letter on her Tumblr page. Ireland starts out by welcoming Carmen to the world, telling her how many people care about her and how she wished that she had an “experimental, older, wild child of a sister” to show her the ropes of growing up in the public eye.

Ireland goes on to share her life lessons on fighting, partying, boys, and parents. “Remember that your parents will always love you. As a kid, you forget that sometimes,” she wrote. “No matter what your mom or Dad says or does, simply remember that they love the sh*t out of you.” These are strong words coming from Ireland, who has had a rocky relationship with her father. It’s no surprise given that Baldwin has a raging temper. He called his own daughter a “rude, thoughtless little pig” who didn’t have “the brains or the decency as a human being”—she was only 11 years old at the time. Baldwin and Ireland have since mended their relationship.

Ireland closes off the letter by telling her little sister that she has been born into “one crazy family” and that she is both “lucky and cursed at the same time.”
