Khalil Everage makes a strong feature film debut alongside Anthony Anderson in Beats, which premieres on Netflix on June 19. Everage, who plays August Monroe in Beats, walked his first red carpet at the movie’s world premiere at the American Black Film Festival, but his role has already garnered critical anticipation. And his star is only rising, which makes this Khalil Everage wiki a must-read.

Khalil Everage Is from Chicago

Khalil Solomon Everage was born on January 6, 2001 to Dina McReynolds-Everage and Khaldun Everage. Khalil and his sister, Khylah Imani Everage, were raised in Chicago, Illinois.

Khalil is a recent graduate of the Chicago High School for the Arts. His sister attended the Lindblom Math and Science Academy and is now a student at Howard University.

Dina Everage is the chief academic officer at Civitas Education Partners in Chicago. She was previously the principal of South Side’s Wentworth Elementary School, while her late husband was a student engagement and community outreach manager for Chicago Public Schools.

Everage’s Father Worked with the Youth

Khaldun Everage, born on June 12, 1970, was an inspiring man. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

After a decorated military career, completing his college education, and marrying Dina McReynolds, Khaldun helped establish the Chicago Police Department’s Juvenile Gang Intervention Partnership Program. He was also an investigator at Chicago’s Office of Professional Standards, among other things.

Armed with a gang specialist certification, he left the Chicago PD to become the project manager and gang specialist for the Chicago Crime Commission. His anti-gang work and determination to keep Chicago’s youth safe earned him several honors.

From 2002 until he passed away on June 5, 2012, Khaldun served multiple roles in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, such as National Safe and Drug Free Schools coordinator, student development specialist, and regional safety facilitator.

Khalil’s father helped many young people in his lifetime and was remembered fondly by the lives he changed. Even the Illinois General Assembly passed a Senate resolution at the time of his passing to mourn the inspirational figure that is Khaldun Everage.

It’s no surprise that Khalil is a socially conscious teen who has participated in youth programs. He also does his bit to help his peers, using his new fame for good.

Khalil Majored in Music

Everage always wanted to entertain and music seemed to be in his blood. His father was a force in the church choir and his uncle is Chicago-born, Grammy-nominated gospel singer Jonathan McReynolds.

Khalil even majored in vocal performance in high school. Gill Talent Group owner Patti K. Gill met Khalil and his family through church and signed him to her talent agency.

Khalil Makes His Debut in Beats

Everage has bagged the debut of a lifetime with Netflix’s Beats. Starring Anthony Anderson and Uzo Aduba, Everage is a co-lead in the gripping coming-of-age flick.

He plays August Monroe, a teen from Roseland, Chicago with a story not so different from his own. August is musically inclined and relies on his single mother after his father dies.

While Khalil has lost friends to gun violence, August witnesses the tragic shooting death of his sister. August finds solace in hip-hop music that connects him to his school security guard (played by Anderson), who is really a washed-out music producer.

They bond through their shared passion for hip-hop and change each other’s lives along the way. Anderson’s character strives to turn this young music prodigy into the next hip-hop legend while staging his own career resurgence.

Beats was filmed in Chicago, a stone’s throw away from Everage’s home. “Literally we were shooting five minutes away from my house. Like, I was hopping into a van and going five minutes to set every day. It was in my neighborhood, so it was dope. It was really dope,” Everage said.

Though he was filming in the South Shore community where he was raised, Everage tried to keep details of it on the downlow. He didn’t tell his friends about it and avoided sharing his location on Snapchat.

He wasn’t completely successful, however. His friend accidentally wandered onto the set one day and was in awe of the production.

While he’s projected for critical acclaim, Khalil remains grounded. He completed his study requirements online while pursuing more acting jobs.

In 2019, he was also seen in Lena Waithe’s The Chi and in the YouTube original series Cobra Kai.
