Clarence Avant is the single most influential mogul in music for some of today’s biggest artists, and he also influenced many others. That makes his Netflix documentary, The Black Godfather, an even greater labor of love for Avant’s family. Produced by his daughter and son-in-law, this documentary traces the influence of the erstwhile Motown head honcho. While he is nothing short of a history-making figure, as we see in the documentary, Clarence Avant’s wife has been his greatest support as well. Jacqueline Avant keeps a low profile but constant presence by her husband’s side. Our Jacqueline Avant wiki turns the spotlight on the woman behind Clarence Avant.

Jacqueline Avant Has Been Married to Clarence Avant for Five Decades

Born Jacqueline “Jackie” Alberta Gray, she has virtually no information available on her early life and age. Jackie has been in the public eye since she married Clarence Avant in 1967.

They are parents to two children, Nicole Avant (born on March 6, 1968) and Alexander Avant (born on August 3, 1971).

Avant’s Daughter Was a U.S. Ambassador

Jackie and Clarence’s daughter Nicole is as politically conscious as her parents. Growing up, Nicole not only witnessed famous musicians entering their home, but also politicians like President Jimmy Carter, L.A. Mayor Tom Bradley, and California Governors Gray Davis and Jerry Brown.

After graduating from California State University, Northridge in 1984, she started her career in the recording industry. But she found her calling in the political field when then-Senator Barack Obama was campaigning for president.

She was the Southern California finance co-chairwoman for the Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign (though her parents were fundraising for Hillary Clinton back then).

President Obama appointed Nicole the U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas in 2009, a post she held until 2011. At 41 years old, she was the youngest U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas and the first black woman to hold the post.

Nicole is married to Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer for Netflix. Sarandos helmed the production of his father-in-law’s documentary, The Black Godfather, which is produced by Nicole.

Jackie and Clarence’s Son Is a Music Manager

While Nicole inherited her political drive from her parents, her younger brother followed in his father’s musical footsteps. Alex Avant, who grew up around Motown musicians managed by his father, now manages artists himself.

The entertainment executive has a few talents on his roster, but he’s more active on social media hanging out with entertainment heavyweights like Jamie Foxx and Naomi Campbell.

Jackie Avant Is Active in the Community

Jacqueline shared her husband’s love for political fundraising and while Clarence is a major presence in the African-American community at large, Jackie did her bit to help the local L.A. community.

Among her many roles, she’s reportedly served as the president of the Neighbors of Watts, the support group for the South Central Community Child Care Center in 1975. Additionally, she was chairman of NOW membership in 1974 and also served as entertainment chairman of the NOW benefit auction and dinner dance.

Jackie was also a member of the board of directors of the International Student Center at UCLA.
